Michigan
Campus Compact – MCC
works to fuel students enthusiasm for service to their community
and tries to get them to be civically engaged citizens. They
offer grants for students, faculty, and staff of member campuses,
coordinate
training for faculty and staff, organize retreats and conferences
for student leaders & volunteers, and have a state-wide
student network for service and civic engagement.
Volunteer
Match – A
website for volunteers to find opportunities in their community
or for agencies
to post opportunities that they have for volunteers.
United
Way Community Services – The
United Way is a national organization whose mission is to improve
social
conditions for individuals in our community by raising funds for
organizations and mobilizing people to volunteer individually or
in groups to make a difference.
The
Detroit Orientation Institute – The
Detroit Orientation Institute (DOI) is a program within Wayne
State’s College of Urban, Labor, and Metropolitan Affairs.
It is a 3 day program that allows people to take a look at the
city of Detroit and its history, and the issues and challenges
the city faces today. Through the program people visit neighborhoods
and landmarks, meet local community leaders, get a local contact
list, see speakers, and overcome their stereotypes and biases toward
the city. The DOI helps with the planning of Wayne’s DASB
to help make it a meaningful experience.
Breakaway – A
group that assists students with the planning of their Alternative
Spring Break programs
by providing training, information, and resources to make their
programs meaningful.
